Delicious, soft cinnamon rolls with a rich cream cheese frosting, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk, heated to 110°F
  • 2 + 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast
  • 1 large room temperature egg
  • 2 Tbsp. melted butter, divided
  • 4 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus 2-4 Tbsp. as needed
  • 6 Tbsp. softened butter (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 4 Tbsp. softened butter (for brushing)
  • 4 oz. softened cream cheese
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Combine liquid ingredients: In a large bowl, pour in warm milk, then sprinkle in active dry yeast. Add the egg, 1 Tbsp. melted butter, sugar, and salt. Whisk quickly until combined.
  2. Mix in flour and knead dough: Add all-purpose flour and mix with a wooden spatula until just combined. If sticky, add additional flour. Knead for about 3 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Let the dough rise: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place in a warm spot to rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the cinnamon filling: Mix softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon in a small bowl until smooth and creamy.
  5. Shape the cinnamon rolls: Dust your work surface with flour, roll the dough into a rectangle, spread the filling evenly, then roll into a tight log and slice into 8 equal pieces.
  6. Final rise: Place the rolls into a greased pan, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise for an additional 30 minutes before brushing with butter.
  7. Bake the rolls: Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool for about 15 minutes before frosting.
  8. Make the cream cheese frosting: Beat together softened butter, cream cheese, and vanilla. Gradually add powdered sugar until creamy.
  9. Frost and enjoy: Spread frosting over warm cinnamon rolls and serve warm.

Notes

For perfectly soft rolls, warm the milk to 110°F. If using dental floss to slice, you can also use a sharp knife gently.
