Delicious red velvet cinnamon rolls topped with cream cheese frosting, perfect for brunch or a special treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Cream cheese frosting (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, salt, and yeast. Mix well to ensure everything is evenly distributed.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, softened butter, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract. Combine until smooth.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and knead until a soft dough forms. You’ll know it’s ready when it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, roll it out onto a floured surface into a large rectangle.
  6. Spread softened butter all over the surface of the rolled dough, then sprinkle with a generous amount of cinnamon.
  7. Carefully roll up the dough from one end to the other, creating a long log. Cut into 12 equal rolls.
  8. Place rolls in a greased baking dish, ensuring they are snug yet not overcrowded. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until they are springy to the touch.
  10. Once baked, let them cool briefly before drizzling with cream cheese frosting. Serve warm and watch them disappear!

Notes

Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, place them in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months.
