Christmas Eve Lasagna

A bubbling, cheesy lasagna that gathers everyone around the table, layered with memories and rich flavors.

Ingredients

  • Lasagna noodles
  • Ground beef or Italian sausage
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Crushed tomatoes
  • Ricotta cheese
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Egg
  • Italian seasoning
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain them and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until softened and fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef or sausage to the skillet, cooking until browned. Drain the excess fat.
  5. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, and season with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let this simmer for 15 minutes.
  6. Mix together ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
  7. Spread a layer of meat sauce in a baking dish, followed by noodles, the ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat these layers until all your ingredients are used.
  8. Cover the lasagna with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve with a fresh green salad and crusty garlic bread. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3-4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
