Fluffy and golden homemade pita bread that serves as a perfect canvas for various dishes and a delightful addition to your Mediterranean meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl.
  2. Dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and oil to the flour mixture.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth, about 10 minutes.
  5. Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C) with a baking stone or baking sheet inside.
  7. Punch down the dough and divide it into balls.
  8. Roll each ball into a flat circle, aiming for about 6 inches in diameter.
  9. Bake on the preheated stone or sheet until puffed and slightly browned, about 5-7 minutes.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight bag or container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze separated by parchment paper in a freezer bag for up to a month.
