Fluffy, warm buns infused with the nutty aroma of sesame oil and fresh scallions, perfect as a snack or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup scallions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Combine the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add warm water and vegetable oil to your dry mixture and stir until a dough begins to form.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it loosely with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  5. After the dough has risen, punch it down gently and roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  6. Generously brush the rolled-out dough with sesame oil to add that irresistible flavor.
  7. Sprinkle the chopped scallions and sesame seeds evenly over the dough, making sure every bite packs a punch.
  8. Starting from one side, roll the dough tightly into a log, ensuring the filling is well enclosed.
  9. Using a sharp knife, cut the rolled dough into pieces about 1 inch thick. Place these pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Cover the cut buns with a cloth and allow them to rise again for about 30 minutes.
  11. Get your steamer ready and steam the buns for 15-20 minutes, until they are fluffy and cooked through.

Notes

Serve fresh out of the steamer with soy sauce or a spicy dipping sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
