Spicy Cajun Shrimp and Grits

A quick and flavorful Southern classic that combines spicy seasoned shrimp with creamy grits.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan.
  2. Stir in 1 cup of grits and reduce the heat to low. Let the grits simmer gently for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Once the grits are tender and creamy, stir in 1 tablespoon of butter, 1/2 cup of heavy cream, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
  4. In a skillet over medium heat, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Toss the shrimp with 1 tablespoon of Cajun seasoning.
  6. Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet and cook for about 3 minutes on each side until pink and opaque.
  7. Serve the spicy shrimp over a heap of warm grits, with a sprinkle of additional Cajun seasoning on top.

Notes

For the full Southern experience, serve with collard greens or mixed salad. Enhance with hot sauce if desired. Store leftovers separately.
