A comforting and easy French toast bake casserole perfect for lazy Sunday mornings and special brunches.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of bread (such as brioche or challah)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh fruit

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to ensure your casserole doesn’t stick.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and place them in the prepared dish. The heartier the loaf, the better—brioche and challah work especially well.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Gently press down to help the bread absorb the liquid.
  5. Cover the dish with foil and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight.
  6. When you’re ready to bake, remove the foil and pop it into the oven. Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
  8. Serve warm with optional toppings like maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit.

Notes

You can use day-old bread for better absorption of the custard. This dish can be prepared overnight for added convenience.
