A quick and zesty salsa recipe that rivals your favorite Mexican restaurant, perfect for gatherings and snacking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 28 oz (800 g) can whole peeled tomatoes, undrained
  • ½ red or white onion, roughly chopped
  • 1 handful fresh cilantro leaves, roughly chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and roughly chopped (leave seeds for extra heat)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Juice of ½ lime
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional, omit if canned tomatoes already contain sugar)

Instructions

  1. Gather your ingredients. Combine whole tomatoes (with juice), chopped onion, cilantro, garlic, jalapeño, and salt in a food processor.
  2. Add zesty lime. Squeeze in the fresh juice of half a lime, adding a tangy brightness to your mix.
  3. Sweeten the mix (if needed). If you feel like your salsa could benefit from a touch of sweetness, sprinkle in a teaspoon of sugar—but remember to taste the canned tomatoes first!
  4. Pulse to perfection. Blend the mixture in the food processor until you reach your desired consistency, whether smooth or slightly chunky.
  5. Taste and adjust. Check the flavor and adjust with additional lime juice or salt as necessary. You want it to sing!
  6. Chill for maximum flavor. Transfer your salsa to a container and refrigerate for several hours or overnight.

Notes

Store your salsa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 3-5 days. Adjust jalapeño for desired heat level.
