Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, pureed
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon of sugar; let it sit for about 5 minutes.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: whisk together flour, remaining sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Combine eggs and butter: beat eggs with melted butter and vanilla in a separate bowl.
  4. Create the dough by pouring the yeast mixture and egg mixture into the bowl with flour mixture; stir until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  7. Shape the donuts by rolling out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness and cutting out donuts.
  8. Fry the donuts in hot oil (350°F) for about 1 minute on each side until golden brown.
  9. Prepare the strawberry glaze by whisking together pureed strawberries, powdered sugar, and lemon juice until smooth.
  10. Glaze the cooled donuts by dipping them in the glaze and placing them on a wire rack to set.
