A delightful combination of classic banana bread and rich brownies, topped with brown butter frosting for an elevated treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips (optional)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan for a non-stick finish.
  2. Combine the mashed bananas and melted butter in a large bowl until smooth.
  3. Stir in the brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.
  4. Mix together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate bowl.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the walnuts or chocolate chips if using.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly. Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. For the frosting, brown the butter over medium heat until golden brown and remove from heat to cool slightly.
  9. Combine the browned butter with powdered sugar, mixing until smooth.
  10. Spread the frosting over the cooled brownies, cut into squares, and enjoy!

Notes

Use very ripe bananas for the sweetest and most moist brownies. The frosted brownies are best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container.
