Create your own authentic Neapolitan pizza at home with this simple and delicious dough recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups of bread flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons of sea salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoons of active dry yeast
  • 1 ¾ cups of lukewarm water
  • 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the bread flour and sea salt. Whisk them together to ensure even distribution.
  2. Activate the yeast: In a separate small bowl, mix the active dry yeast with lukewarm water. Allow it to sit for about 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture into the flour and salt mixture. Use a wooden spoon or your hands to mix until a rough dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  5. Let it rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise at room temperature for about 1 to 2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  6. Punch down the dough: Once risen, punch down the dough to release air. Divide it into 2 to 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball.
  7. Allow the dough balls to rise for another 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  8. Preheat the oven: About 30 minutes before baking, preheat your oven to its highest setting (around 500°F or 260°C).
  9. Take each dough ball and gently stretch it into a circle on a floured surface, leaving a thicker edge for the crust.

Notes
