Crispy and golden onion rings made healthier in the air fryer, perfect for snacking or as a side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 Sweet onions (like Vidalia or Walla Walla)
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 12 tablespoons Cornstarch (optional)
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (any type)
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • Oil spray (avocado oil or olive oil)

Instructions

  1. Prep your onions: Peel and slice the onions into 1/2-inch thick rounds, soaking in ice water for 15-30 minutes if using yellow onions. Drain and pat dry.
  2. Set up your dredging station: In three shallow bowls, mix flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika in the first bowl. Whisk eggs and milk in the second, and place panko breadcrumbs with seasonings in the third.
  3. Dredge the onion rings: Dip each ring into the flour mixture, egg wash, then panko breadcrumbs, and place on a clean baking sheet.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
  5. Air fry in batches: Spray the basket with oil, arrange rings without overlapping, and spray tops with oil.
  6. Cook to golden perfection for 8-12 minutes, flipping halfway and spraying with oil again.
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.

Notes

Ensure even coverage with the oil spray for optimal crispiness. Try different seasoning in the breadcrumbs for variety.
