A delightful loaf of bread infused with Italian herbs and gooey cheese, perfect for any meal or as a standalone treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1½ tablespoons dried Italian herb blend
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy, then add olive oil, 3 cups flour, and salt. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic, adding the remaining flour as needed.
  3. Let the dough rise: Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the herb butter: While the dough rises, mix the softened butter with minced garlic and dried herbs in a small bowl.
  5. Roll out the dough: After the dough has risen, roll it into a 12×18 inch rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the herb butter evenly across the dough, then sprinkle with the shredded mozzarella, grated parmesan, and chopped parsley.
  6. Shape the bread: Roll the dough tightly from the long side, pinch the seam to seal, and place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan. Allow it to rise again for another 30-45 minutes.
  7. Bake to perfection: Preheat your oven to 375°F. Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped on the bottom.

Notes

Serve warm for the best flavor and texture. Pairs well with marinara sauce or tomato soup.
