A velvety pear jam made from ripe, fresh pears, perfect for toast, pastries, and yogurt.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups of ripe pears, peeled and chopped
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients in a large pot: chopped pears, sugar, lemon juice, and water.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently.
  3. Simmer until soft, about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Add cinnamon and nutmeg for extra flavor, if desired.
  5. Mash the mixture to your desired consistency using a potato masher.
  6. Cook until thickened, about 10-15 more minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Test the jam by placing a spoonful on a cold plate; if it holds its shape, it’s done.
  8. Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars and seal them.
  9. Store in the refrigerator or process for longer shelf life.

Notes

For best flavor, choose ripe but firm pears. Properly sterilize jars to avoid spoilage.
