A delightful and simple homemade tomato sauce bursting with flavor, perfect for pasta, pizza, and Mediterranean dishes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans (28 ounces each) of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon of dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Sauté the chopped onion until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Combine the crushed tomatoes, sugar, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  5. Simmer the sauce, reduce the heat to low, and cook for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Cool the sauce and store in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Notes

For a smoky flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika. Use fresh herbs for enhanced flavor.
