A classic Italian dessert featuring layers of creamy mascarpone and coffee-soaked ladyfingers, perfect for celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 30–40 ladyfinger cookies
  • Cocoa powder for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Whisking the Base: In a saucepan, whisk together 6 egg yolks and 3/4 cup granulated sugar. Add 2/3 cup milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened. Once thickened, remove from heat and let it cool.
  2. Whipping the Cream: In a large bowl, whip 1 1/4 cups heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold in 1 cup mascarpone cheese until well combined.
  3. Preparing the Coffee Mix: Mix 1 cup of strong brewed coffee and 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (if using) in a shallow dish.
  4. Dipping the Ladyfingers: Quickly dip 30-40 ladyfinger cookies into the coffee mixture, ensuring each side is lightly soaked. Layer them snugly in a serving dish.
  5. Building the Layers: Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture over the layer of ladyfingers, smoothing it out gently. Repeat with another layer of soaked ladyfingers followed by the remaining cream on top.
  6. Chilling to Perfection: Refrigerate your creation for at least 240 minutes, preferably overnight.
  7. The Final Touch: Just before serving, dust with cocoa powder and decorate with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
