Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs

  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Add the milk, lemon juice, and lemon zest until well combined.
  6. Combine the flour mixture with the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  7. Fold in the poppy seeds, ensuring even distribution in the batter.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Cool the cake in the pan for a few minutes before serving on a plate.
