Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil

  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans to ensure the cakes come out with ease.
  2. Sift together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder in a bowl.
  3. Combine the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar in a separate bowl.
  4. Add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients and mix gently until just combined.
  5. Evenly divide the batter between the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  8. Frost the cooled cakes with rich cream cheese frosting.

Notes

Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing. For a more vibrant color, use gel food coloring.
