A delightful dessert made of flaky phyllo dough layered with a nutty filling and drenched in sweet syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 2 cups of nuts (such as walnuts, pistachios, or almonds), finely chopped
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking this delicious creation.
  2. Layer 10 sheets of phyllo dough in a buttered 9×13 inch pan, brushing each sheet generously with melted butter.
  3. Mix the finely chopped nuts and ground cinnamon together in a bowl, then spread this mixture over your phyllo layer.
  4. Continue the layering process by adding more phyllo sheets, brushing each with butter, interspersed with more nut mixture until you finish all the ingredients.
  5. Cut the layered baklava into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.
  6. Bake for about 50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  7. Combine water, sugar, honey, and vanilla in a saucepan, bring to a boil, then let it simmer to make the syrup.
  8. Pour the syrup over the baked baklava immediately.
  9. Let the Baklava cool completely before serving.

Notes

Always cover phyllo sheets with a damp towel while working to prevent drying out. Wrap tightly for freezing.
