A sweet and creamy flan recipe that connects generations and cultures, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sugar (for caramel)
  • 1/4 cup water (for caramel)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) so it’s ready for the flan when we finish our preparations.
  2. Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Once it starts bubbling, allow it to turn a golden color and carefully pour it into a round cake pan.
  3. Mix together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla extract in a blender until it’s smooth and creamy.
  4. Gently pour the blended milk mixture over the caramel in the cake pan.
  5. Place the cake pan in a larger baking dish and fill with water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the cake pan.
  6. Slide the whole setup into the oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set.
  7. Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool completely at room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
  8. Run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Invert the cake pan onto a plate to serve.

Notes

Flan can be paired with fresh fruit or a dollop of whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
