Delicate and colorful macaron cookies with a crisp exterior and a soft, chewy center, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Sift together the powdered sugar and almond flour.
  3. Whip the egg whites until frothy, then gradually add cream of tartar and granulated sugar until stiff peaks form.
  4. Fold the sifted dry mixture into the beaten egg whites until combined, adding vanilla extract and food coloring if desired.
  5. Pipe the mixture onto prepared baking sheets in small, uniform circles.
  6. Rest the piped macarons at room temperature for 30 minutes until they form a skin.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until they lift off the baking sheet easily.
  8. Cool completely before filling with your favorite filling.

Notes

Store macarons in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
