A moist and rich chocolate cake topped with a glossy frosting, perfect for family gatherings and celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a sheet cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until blended.
  3. Add the butter and water to a saucepan, bring to a boil, and stir in the cocoa powder.
  4. Pour the hot chocolate mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until combined.
  5. Add the eggs, buttermilk, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing until smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Melt the butter for the frosting and mix in cocoa powder, powdered sugar, vanilla, and a splash of milk.
  8. Once the cake is cooled, frost it generously.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or refrigerate for a week. Can be frozen for up to 2 months.
