Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups sliced apples (such as Granny Smith)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade crust)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) to get it nice and hot.
  2. In a large bowl, toss together the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  3. On a floured surface, roll out one pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan.
  4. Fill the crust with the apple mixture and dot with pieces of butter.
  5. Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Seal and flute the edges and cut slits in the top crust.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) for 35-45 minutes.
  7. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

Mix different varieties of apples for depth of flavor. An egg wash on the crust gives a beautiful shine.
