A simple and stunning rustic dessert featuring fresh berries in a flaky pastry crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups mixed berries (e.g., blueberries, raspberries, strawberries)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Mix the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cut in the chilled, diced butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the ice water gradually until the dough begins to hold together.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rough circle, about 1/8-inch thick.
  6. Place mixed berries in the center of the rolled-out dough, leaving a generous border around the edges.
  7. Fold the edges of the dough over the berries, pinching where necessary.
  8. Brush the crust with beaten egg and sprinkle coarse sugar on top.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the berries are bubbly.
  10. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
