A comforting classic dish of tender beef simmered in a creamy sauce, served over egg noodles or rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef sirloin, sliced into thin strips
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked egg noodles or rice for serving
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil over medium-high heat in a large skillet. Add the beef strips and cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Toss in the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until soft and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook until tender, around 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard; bring to a gentle simmer.
  6. Return the browned beef to the skillet and simmer for another 5 minutes to meld flavors.
  7. Reduce heat to low and stir in the sour cream, heating gently without boiling.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste, adjusting flavors as needed.
  9. Serve the stroganoff over cooked egg noodles or rice, garnished with chopped parsley.

Notes

For best flavor, let the beef rest at room temperature before cooking. Use pre-sliced mushrooms and pre-chopped onions for convenience.
