Experience the joy of New Orleans with these fluffy, powdered-sugar-dusted beignets, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small saucepan, heat the water and sugar until warm. Sprinkle the yeast over the warm water and let it sit for about 10 minutes.
  2. Combine the wet ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the yeast mixture with salt, eggs, and milk. Gradually mix in the flour until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Let the dough rise: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and allow the dough to rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1-2 hours.
  4. Shape the beignets: Once the dough has risen, roll it out to about 1/4-inch thickness and cut it into squares.
  5. Heat the oil: Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 360°F (182°C).
  6. Fry the beignets: Fry the squares until golden brown on each side, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Dust and serve: Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
