Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken in yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, turmeric, cumin, coriander, chili powder, and salt for at least 1 hour.
  2. In a pan, melt butter over medium heat. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, and grated ginger, sautéing until fragrant.
  3. Add the marinated chicken to the skillet, cooking until browned on all sides.
  4. Pour in the tomato sauce, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for about 20 minutes.
  5. Slowly pour in the heavy cream, mixing until well combined.
  6. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve your butter chicken with warm rice or naan.

Notes

For best flavor, marinate the chicken overnight. Pair with rice or naan, and consider adding a side of cucumber salad or raita.
