Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 3/4 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon butter flavoring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the brown sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a medium saucepan until well combined.
  2. Gradually add the whole milk to the dry mixture, whisking continuously to ensure there are no lumps.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and reaches a gentle boil.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the unsalted butter and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the butterscotch pudding into dessert cups, allowing it to cool before transferring to the refrigerator. Let it chill for at least 2 hours, or until set.
