A delightful twist on a classic dish featuring tender chicken thighs in a sweet and spicy sauce, perfect for recreating cozy takeout nights at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 green onion, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Coat the chicken: Toss chicken pieces in cornstarch until well-coated.
  2. Fry until golden: Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add chicken and fry until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Sauté aromatics: In the same pan, add garlic and ginger, sautéing for about 30 seconds until aromatic.
  4. Mix the sauce: In a bowl, mix soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Pour into the pan and bring to a simmer.
  5. Combine chicken and sauce: Add the cooked chicken back to the pan and stir to coat with the sauce for another 2-3 minutes.
  6. Serve and garnish: Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions.

Notes

For extra crunch, double-coat the chicken in cornstarch and ensure the oil is hot enough before frying.
