A rich and decadent German Chocolate Cake layered with sweet coconut and crunchy pecans, perfect for any celebration.

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.
  3. Add in the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until smooth.
  4. Stir in the boiling water until well combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pans, ensuring an equal distribution.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. Combine shredded coconut, chopped pecans, evaporated milk, butter, sugar, and egg yolks in a saucepan for the frosting. Cook over medium heat until thickened, then stir in vanilla.
  9. Once the cakes are cool, spread the frosting between the layers and generously on top of the cake.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a splash of your favorite liqueur. Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
